REDMON
Audio Biography
The CD opens with “Garth Brooks Ain’t Playing Here Tonight”
, establishing with no apologies or misconceptions as to who Larry
Redmon is and where he comes from. “I write what I live and
I live what I write”
Listen further if you dare.
Next
Larry slams into “Crazy People Like Me”, a country blues
that expounds upon the hair pulling frustrations of modern day life,
from all pervasive media sensationalism to the neutering of American
music, leading to the discharging of a firearm through the wall
of the house. Certainly a logical
outcome.
And just as you catch your breath he slides into “Dusty”,
the heartfelt story of a kid growing up on a farm during the Vietnam
era and the subsequent loss of his friend and hero to the times
and the war. A true-life story, real-life Americana.
Other songs on the CD range from the crowd favorites “ It
Must Be Love”, a honkytonker expounding upon the head scratching
notion of how opposites attract, to the western swing “Let’s
Get Naked And Run Around The Garden”, about the joys of drinking
wine under the light of a full moon while running
around- well, the song title gives you the rest of the idea.
And love songs? There are several, including “As Is No Warranty”
which likens the beginning of a love affair to the purchase of a
used car, to the bittersweet “ Searching For The Perfect Line”,
reflections of a love affair never completely consummated.
At this point it may occur to you that this is not overprocessed,
homogenized, rerun top forty country music.
Round the CD off with a barnburning truck-driving song, a classic
beer-drinking singalong, and several other songs that reveal facets
of someone who truly experiences life...
....And finish the set with “Friends Prayer”, a song
written in memory of a compadre now departed and sung in memory
of all compadres now departed. This song was quickly and simply
recorded and added to the finished CD as it went to the pressing
plant, following the tragic death of a longtime and dear
friend.
And so REDMON truly is an audiobiography.
But in a word can Larry Redmon be defined?
Larry Redmon is a singer-songwriter-enterrtainer who has often been
described a “out of the box”., defying preconceived
notions and labeling so pervasive in today’s music industry.
Yet in so many ways he’s a staunch traditionalist, in the
tradition of the troubadour whose life lives in his music.
